The CrankTank 3 is a lightweight and rigid high capacity hydration system that fits on nearly any triangular hardtail bike, such as MTBs, gravel bikes and road bikes, and allows you to carry up to 0.8 gallons/3 liters of water. Compared to its big sister, the CrankTank 4, the CrankTank 3 is a bit smaller in size, has a narrower Q-Factor and features an edgier design.
The CrankTank kit includes everything you need to strap it on the bike and set out on your next adventure. The standard kit comes with a top-loading clip to hold your hydration tube in place when not in use. For other clip options, take a look at our CrankTank Accessories.
Similar to frame bags, rubbing between CrankTank and frame can occur over time and we recommend installing either a pair of our CrankTank Frame Adapters or alternatively wrap the areas of contact with some protective tape, such as helicopter tape for example, to protect the frame. Frame Adapters can also help with fitting the CrankTank onto some more exotic shaped or large down and seat tubes.
We are proud to say, that our CrankTanks are hand-made right here in sunny California where we are based.
Features
Features
The CrankTank is a great companion for bike touring, bikepacking, ultra distance racing and when riding on hot days or in remote areas. Utilizing two simple Velcro straps, installation/removal takes less than a minute and thanks to the CrankTank's ideal placement above the bottom bracket, the point of gravity is kept low and bike handling is not affected.
Compared to a full frame bag, there is no leg rub as the CrankTank keeps its shape, even when completely full, water levels are visible at all times (applies to all available colors) and thanks to its sturdy design, accidentally pinching your water bladder is not something you will have to worry about.
Due to the efficient use of space and its single chamber design, the CrankTank also offers the potential for weight savings compared to mounting bottles and cages in multiple places across the bike to achieve the same capacity.

I bought this because I ride alone and usually 3-4 hours. Which means I normally would have to stop and find a shop to buy water. I carry extra heed on my bike for additional 2 bottles. With this I don't have to stop and leave my bike vulnerable to theft while I'm inside shop getting water.
I tried to double the mix of heed but that just made the water bottle a slurry mix with not enough water. I thought of buying one of those triathlon behind the saddle bottle holders but I didn't want that look.
You have to get used to sucking your liquid nutrition in, instead of the instant squeeze of a bottle. And when you are huffing and puffing along it can be hard to intake enough with each suck. But i should get stronger for it.
The cleaning rod that they offer does not travel through the entire tube. You will have to remove the bite valve to clean the tube from the other side if you don't cut about 14" off. I have a small frame bike so I was able to cut off 14" and the cleaning rod hits my camelbak on/off valve. I replaced the regular bite valve with the on/off valve so there would be no dripping. I did not test first, just remembering from my old camelbak reservoirs. The brush that they offer to clean the tank reaches 90% of the interior. The only spot that I haven't been able to reach is the cavity behind the seat stay. You are going to have to use the chem tablets to clean it once in a while, soapy hot water won't always clean that area without some agitation. I also use a mini blower to help the drying process.
Great
Put a 3L Cranktank on my Bombtrack Hook EXT-C (With the spacer kit for carbon frames). Done two overnight trips now and it's been fantastic, live off the bottles on my partners bike and use the crank tank predominantly for camp / cooking water as the last two trips have had no water on site. Very happy with the purchase, will be adding a cutoff to the hose to stop the bleed back in the line, but otherwise happy with it for general riding
Cranktank is a niche product so it took me a while to find it as most xxlbottles are bladder type. The tank fits snug, its low gravity point keeps bike balanced.
