The CrankTank 4 is a lightweight and rigid high capacity hydration system that fits on nearly any triangular hardtail bike, such as MTBs, gravel bikes and road bikes, and allows you to carry up to 1.06 gallons/4 liters of water. Compared to its little sister, the CrankTank 3, the CrankTank 4 is a bit larger in size and features a more rounded design.
The CrankTank kit includes everything you need to strap it on the bike and set out on your next adventure. The standard kit comes with a top-loading clip to hold your hydration tube in place when not in use. For other clip options, take a look at our CrankTank Accessories.
Similar to frame bags, rubbing between CrankTank and frame can occur over time and we recommend installing either a pair of our CrankTank Frame Adapters or alternatively wrap the areas of contact with some protective tape, such as helicopter tape for example, to protect the frame. Frame Adapters can also help with fitting the CrankTank onto some more exotic shaped or large down and seat tubes.
We are proud to say, that our CrankTanks are hand-made right here in sunny California where we are based.
Features
Features
The CrankTank is a great companion for bike touring, bikepacking, ultra distance racing and when riding on hot days or in remote areas. Utilizing two simple Velcro straps, installation/removal takes less than a minute and thanks to the CrankTank's ideal placement above the bottom bracket, the point of gravity is kept low and bike handling is not affected.
Compared to a full frame bag, there is no leg rub as the CrankTank keeps its shape, even when completely full, water levels are visible at all times (applies to all available colors) and thanks to its sturdy design, accidentally pinching your water bladder is not something you will have to worry about.
Due to the efficient use of space and its single chamber design, the CrankTank also offers the potential for weight savings compared to mounting bottles and cages in multiple places across the bike to achieve the same capacity.

Reviewed already. Update. I finally installed it on the Kona Sutra. It took some finagling. Also, I ended up using a different strap and it still is not as snug as I wish it was. Four good old fashioned toe straps or those silicon straps or something, but these two wide velcro straps do not secure it snug and secure. An attachment hole at the bottom would help. I'll MacGyver something. Not unhappy, just not perfect. Yet.
Thank you for your feedback! Looking at the Kona Sutra, a pair of frame adapters would probably help with the fit, as the diameter of the down and seat tube of that specific bike are relatively small in diameter. While our standard frame adapters would probably be sufficient for the Kona Sutra, we sometimes also make custom adapters for customers to help with the fit of the CrankTank. Send us an email if you need any help!
Great product, well designed. Shame that postage to UK is so expensive!
Have not used it yet on tour, but I like it. It fit just fine in the, um, "crotch" of the triangle. I will probably pass on the adapters as it sits lower without them and just wrap some old bar tape around the frame to prevent abrasion. I was doubtful that it held the claimed four liters, and then I dumped out four liters of water from it! My only concern is that the pressure release valve is not protected from dust or debris and so I am not sure how to prevent the water from being contaminated. Only that prevents a five star rating. If you tour, you need this. Just buy it. (I had four containers to carry four liters, now I only have one.) Oh, for SIX stars, insulate it so that it will keep ice for a full 8 hours. (I had mounted a 2L stainless steel insulated jug on my seat tube. Hmmm. Will it fit above the CrankTank?)
Great
My girlfriend and I are absolutely thrilled with our Crank Tanks 3 and 4! Both tanks are incredibly well-designed, durable, and easy to use. They make fueling up or carrying liquids on our rides a breeze. A special shoutout to David from the support team—he was friendly, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to help us. Excellent products and outstanding service all around!
